Caroline Vanderick
Overview
Caroline Vanderick is a health services planning, financing and management expert with over 15 years long term experience in the management of health programmes in Africa and Eastern Europe. Currently the Africa Programmes Director, based in Kampala, overseeing Malaria Consortium’s programmes implementation on the African continent, Caroline brings a high level of management experience having led various large and complex programmes in challenging environments. With a MSc in Health Policy, Planning and Financing, Caroline has expertise in health systems strengthening; institutional development; capacity development; and high level liaison. She has spent time in various countries, with three long term postings in Burundi, Liberia and Nigeria.
Background and relevant experience
Between 2008 and 2010, she was National Programme Director for the DFID funded Support to National Malaria Programme (SuNMaP) in Nigeria. Prior to this she was National Programme Manager for the DFID funded Partnership for Transforming Health Systems 1 (PATHS 1) programme (2006-2008) in Northern Nigeria where she provided technical advice and support to teams at Federal level and in four states for the local development and implementation of reforms in the health sector with a focus on health systems strengthening and local capacity building. Previous to this she was State Team Leader, Ekiti State for PATHS 1 (2002-2006). In Liberia, Caroline was a Project Manager for the support to the reorganisation of the health sector project with the European Commission. As a management consultant with Save the Children in Tajikistan, she supported an income generating programme for female headed households (1996); and as Operations Manager with Relief International, for a medical and training support programme (1995-1996).
