Peer assessment of mission hospitals and planning for reforms - Tanzania
Health Partners International undertook a detailed, comprehensive and rapid appraisal of the services, management and performance of three large teaching and referral hospitals, two of which are Tanzania’s largest mission hospitals. This was part of a wider hospital reform programme in Tanzania.
The process, Peer Participatory Rapid Health Appraisal for Action (PPRHAA), involved:
- identifying priorities for hospital reform
- the preparation of an annual action plan for each hospital
- developing guidelines and Tanzanian capacity to implement the PPRHAA process independently.
Our experts in public health and social development led a multi-disciplinary team of 20 health managers and staff from the Ministry of Health and the three hospitals.
A detailed facilitator’s guide on the client and community aspects of the PPRHAA process was prepared for use in future PPRHAA processes.
