Health sector transformation
Health Partners International helps policy makers and planners transform health services. We work in a number of broad areas which are strongly linked to one another.
Our consultants are experienced in advising on health sector priorities within the context of Sector Wide Approaches (SWAps), direct budget support and performance-driven programme support, which require different approaches to health services management.
Some examples of our work
- Health policy, planning and financing: The link between policies and finances and how these elements feed into planning are vital in any health sector transformation
- Public-private partnerships in health: Involving the private sector in health services planning can improve the resources that are available
- Monitoring and evaluation: There is an increased emphasis on monitoring and evaluation (M&E) due, for example, to the emergence of performance-driven funds. M&E requires good health management information systems and independent, external auditors
- Institutional analysis: The new relationships that often accompany health sector transformations may require changes in the way ministries of health are organised including, for example, staff roles and skills requirements
- Health policy, legislation and ethics: There is a need to support ministries of health to ensure that they have the appropriate legislative environment to deliver national health policies. There are also challenges arising from issues such as private sector involvement and increased interest in developing countries in pharmaceutical research.
